Cross My Heart for a Cross Body Bag

Our culture is indeed a multitasking one and it is only fair that the items we use every day be able to keep up with that. No longer about looking posh or just as an accessory, handbags are evolving to become tidy, utilitarian and elegant. This fall and winter, several different designers from Chanel to Merimekko have revamped and updated the classic cross body bag. If the only bag that comes to mind is the “murse” worn by Alan in The Hangover, then read on. Cross body bags aren’t just about being useful but also about beauty. Thus, these bags are now making its way to becoming chic fashion bags.

With a general design of a strap that goes across the body from shoulder to hip and a flap that lifts to reveal several pockets, the cross body bag is great for students, artists, moms or really anyone that can appreciate a hands free option. Sitting seductively on the hip, the bag is safe in design from anyone that would want to snatch it away. The interior pockets allow for items to be sorted and neatly put in place which can be found by a hand quickly without needing to shuffle. Some cross body bags also have an outer pocket that is great for quick needed items like a cell phone.

This fall and winter, there is a multitude of choices in regards to cross body bags. From bright colors, different metals and prints, there is truly a bag for every occasion. Grab a plush, black vinyl bag with fringe and a thick, gold metal strap to go out on the town and dance all night without having to hold a purse. Going to a concert? There are small denim cross body bags just big enough for id, lip gloss and a ticket. For the stroll through the arts district or weekend market, channel your inner artist with a plain, large canvas bag.

What we wear says as much about us as we do and just like a coordinated outfit, the perfect finishing touch is the cross body bag. Freedom of expression is a beautiful thing and with so many choices this year, that expression can change with the wind. The traditional clutch or handbag can be either beautiful and short on space or beautiful and cumbersome with huge, cavernous pockets where all items are eternally lost. Cross body bags are simple in their design but elegant in their absolute organization.

Anytime we step out of our comfort zone and try something different, there is always a little feeling of awkwardness. Not the case with these awesome bags since they have become a cultural phenomenon. There is no wrong way to wear them and no constant disruption from having to continuously pull up slipped straps. Dressing up doesn’t require a traditional bag when there are so many new ideas out there this season. These cross body bags are timeless and ageless, being worn beautifully by anyone of any age. From leather to denim, from plain to sparkles it is easy to be snappy, sharp or studious and mostly, smart by freeing the hands while sorting the stuff.

I love cross-body bags! It’s one of my go to bags since I am quite careless. Plus, gives you free hands for other stuff to carry!
